When you are going through something awful, there is a landing place for you inside the heart of God. During those desperate times you need to think of something beautiful; and poetry is an expression of beauty, coming directly out of what you see and feel in your life. That expression, when partnered with the Lord, can help you to stay present in your new man mindset and not give way to your old nature.
In this episode we examine how we interact with the poetic in God’s heart. As with the earlier episodes in this series, Graham continues to share a side of himself rarely seen in public. With spontaneity and laughter, he shares poetry that he’s written with the Lord, and how doing so has caused a dramatic shift in the intimacy and closeness he’s felt with the Father over the last forty plus years as a Believer.
Here is the scripture that Graham mentions at the beginning of this episode.
Isaiah 61v 1-3
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a]
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.
